Missouri Wind And Solar - Like the product Battery Guard Low Voltage Protection Switch

New - Update stopped working correctly. Turns on and off repeatedly and blows battery fuses and maybe damaging inverter.

.....

Original - This product has done exactly what I wanted I have tested it and although programmable I would recommend keeping it at the factory settings 2.1 V off and then 2.5 bolts back on. Customer service seems to be great sent an email on how to program the device and they got back to me within a day or so with the instructions and their recommendations.Customer service seems to be great sent an email on how to program the device and they got back to me within a day or so with the instructions and their recommendations

I was sent a threat of Violence for a bad review!

Missouri Wind And Solar - I was sent a threat of Violence for a bad review!

UPDATE 2) I was sent a threat of violence through my personal Facebook profile from the salesman I worked with because of the negative review. He said he takes it as a personal attack and that I should meet him at his house to "settle it like a man" and if not, he knows the area I live in very very well.

He has my address in their computer system. I completely feel threatened by him of physical violence and I was sent a cease and desist letter from the owners lawyers to sue for my bad review of them. Through further research of BBB complaints and it seems like they do this to anyone with a bad review.

(UPDATE) This is a 100% honest review. I will only provide honesty.

There was no misleading comment. I was inaccurately sized and I was at risk of damage. I am now being threaten to be sued for posting a bad review. I will not be hushed and I will not be bullied.

They went out of there way to deny my business and cause confrontation. This is an immoral company who deletes or shames negative comments and reviews.

They did not try to resolve other than banning me.

I was banned from this store for a negative comment on a Facebook ad. They undersized my wire which could have burned my RV to the ground and, since we live in it, we could have gone down with it.

I made a purchase online from MWANDS, and it arrived surprisingly quickly. I had an issue with the product, at which time I called their support number and was given knowledgeable assistance and information. I was also offered a refund if the product did not meet my requirements.

I am very thankful for the courteous assistance on their part.

I called a couple of times to make me clear about the use of product and installation. I felt that the conversation made me wish I hadn't ventured into this project.

All that was rec'd is that I buy the charge controller for the first product ordered. No problem. I just felt very unwelcome as a customer.

I don't care how much you make me see that I don't know what you know. I as a customer only care how much you care about the customer getting to understand the product.

Charge controller Solenoid

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Missouri Wind And Solar - Charge controller Solenoid
Missouri Wind And Solar - Charge controller Solenoid - Image 2
Missouri Wind And Solar - Charge controller Solenoid - Image 3

Purchased their 440amp controller. . . It is actually a 100 amp controller according to them. That was ok, I was only going to run 50 amps through

it, and that was more than enough.

Taking them at their word, I connected the 440A controller to my collectors.

It seemed to work for a few days, so I went back home which is 550 miles away.

I also decided to order a duel 880A controller, because I was going to put another 1500 to 2000 more watts into my system.

One month later I came back to my off grid house, walked by my battery box and controller, and smelled burning. . .

I discovered that the controller was burning up. So hot that you could not touch it, and hot enough to burn back some of the insulation.

I called Missouri wind and solar and told them what was going on. They claimed my wires were to small. . . (which they were not). So in order to appease them, I spent another 25 dollars and put heavier wire on. . .Exact same thing happened. . .the controller overheats. . . and gets extremely hot.

They told me that they were going to set up the situation in the Laboratory there in Missouri, telling me they will get back with me.

They never did. . .

I borrowed a IR thermometer and measured the temperature of the controller. . .It was over 500F. The bolts where the wires attack were discolored from the intense heat. I sent pictures of the temp, I also showed the amount of current going through the controller. . it was

about 35amps.

When All said and done, it had been over 3 months for the original controller and almost 3 months for the duel one that I purchased.

My reward for working with these people? They will only fix the single controller and give me 80 percent of the new controller. This means I will have to pay 25 dollars worth of shipping to get 45 dollars back from them. because of restocking charges.

The digital controllers seem to work, but the Solenoids cannot handle even close to the amount of current they claim .. I have tried 3 of them now, and even with 25 amps at 24 volts, they overheat.

There is no way in the world, it is impossible for those Solenoids to handle 100 amps. . . it is impossible, and they are lying about their product.

I found out through research, there are other folks who are having this exact same problem with these Solenoids. . . overheating and failing.

I uploaded three pictures. . .. One shows the contollers terminals. The terminals got so hot, that they are completely discolored. These are not small terminals either.

Another picture shows the temperature of the Solenoid. . .over 500 degrees F. . . I have discovered other people have ran into this exact same problem. . .I am lucky this didn't burn down my house.

Another picture shows the amount of current running through the Solenoid, which is about 35 amps. The lower picture shows the voltage drop across the terminals. .. Just less than 1 volt drop.

I have sent these pictures to Missouri Wind and Solar, and no response.

They refused to set up the situation in a Lab, because it has been months now since they told me that they would. . . and no response except to fix the 440A and give me back 80 percent of what I paid for the 880A. Which amounts to about 45 to 50 dollars.

The big issue is this. . . their controllers are far beyond dangerous. They cannot handle the current they claim, and others like me have pointed this out to them. They make every excuse to blame the customers, when in fact the controllers cannot handle that kind of current, not even close.

My setup when this happened, was about 35 amps of power, which shows on the Amp meter. that is 1/3 the so called rated power it can handle.

Lately I took the duel Solenoid that I have, and had to split up my panels 3 different ways in order for my system to work. I had to run 25 amps of power through each of the Solenoids for a total of 50 amps, and the third set of panels ( 24 amps), I ran directly to the batteries. With this setup, the Solenoids still got hot enough that you cannot touch them, but allowed them to cool down when they switched off. The third set of panels that ran to the batteries kept the Solenoids turned off long enough to cool down and not get hot enough that you could smell them.

Don't purchase any of these Solenoid controllers. . . they are extremely dangerous. If you have a smaller system, they will probably do ok. . .but don't expect to run more than about 20 amps through them continuously, or you will have a fire hazard.

I lost two batteries because of these things, I also lost about 150 dollars for controllers that cannot even manage my system.

My system at that time was approx 1200 watts, but in reality output was about 900 watts or so.

My personal opinion and if I were to guess, I believe these controllers are only able to handle the amount of current they specify for a limited amount of time. They are not designed to handle the current they claim for any extended amount of time. If I am correct on this guess, it can fully explain the amount of heat and other problems associated with their Solenoid controller products. Having 35 amps for 6 to 8 hours running through a device that is only supposed to handle 100 amps for a few minutes can explain the intense heat, the failure of the controller, and the explanations of what I have to go through to keep the Solenoids from burning up.

Bucky Bo has nothing on this group of Hillbilly engineers. Built to enrich them and fail customers. I have same results.

You would be better off having each solar panel with a grid tie micro inverter, more diversified, lower amps, higher voltage seems to help keep the temperature of circuits down, plus no batteries, and a standby generator for emergencies.

Not true. .

I am completely off the grid. .

.Grid ties are worthless. Now, if I wanted to spend 7000 dollars to run the grid, and have a 50 dollar a month bill for a meter only, I would agree with you.

Seems like these companies always have an excuse. Every negative this company gets they always turn it around their product is junk I’ve had mine a year and it only turns in a storm. False advertisement

Crystal S

Unfortunately, customers accidentally damage their equipment and then hide behind the anonymity of sites like this or attempt to force us to offer replacements to have reviews adjusted. After diligently searching through our records to try and identify this customer, we finally determined who we believe this customer to be and what had happened.

We typically don’t respond as technically as we have in this response, but this customer has gone to great lengths to point to our perceived mistakes and we feel we should respond as accurately as possible. Missouri Wind and Solar has been serving our customers since 2007 and we have over 50,000 customers – tens of thousands of happy customers are using our products successfully. We produce the finest alternative energy products in the world and proudly stand behind them. Three out of four of the wind turbines we sell use the part in question here.

If there was something wrong, we would diligently seek to get the unit back to inspect the unit to make sure that no other units had similar issues as this product is so prevalent in our offerings. Since this customer has decided to do this anonymously, we cannot be certain, but we believe the following facts to be true to the best of our knowledge: -We attempted to get the unit returned to us but have never received it for testing and inspection. -The unit the customer is describing is the MW440CCDIG and is a wind and solar hybrid controller. The unit is rated for 100 amps continuous use on the wind leg, and 100 amps continuous on the solar leg with a total surge on both sides totaling 440 amps, hence it's rating.

-The lugs on the relay portion of the controller measure 0.265" of an inch on the Minor Diameter. This is equivalent to a #2AWG welding lead, more than enough to carry a 100-amp load. By the customers own admission, these are very large terminals. -We have tested the relays extensively and the maximum temperature when the units are properly installed is 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

-When we attempted to replicate the conditions using a resistor and power supply, we could not exceed 140 degrees, far less than the 500 degrees stated. -Heat buildup in an electrical system is a symptom of resistance somewhere in the transmission line. The customer was using a section of copper plumbing pipe as a buss bar to combine their solar panels and using 8 awg wire on the outgoing side to the battery bank. This is far smaller than should be used for the 50 amps the customer was initially running through the controller, as 8 awg is considered 40-amp wire.

-It was discussed (recorded calls) that the customer had torqued the terminals of the relay in excess of the rated 10-inch LBS. This can cause warping of the internal contacts of the relay and result in poor performance from the controller. This typically manifests itself in the form of a controller that does not cycle correctly and may "stick" in one position or another. This same warping can also result in heat buildup due to a poor connection inside the relay itself.

It is quite possible that between the small wire and the improperly torqued relay that this is the source of the heat the customer is experiencing, but without getting the controller back there is no way for us to tell. -To our knowledge the customer never decided to install the 880 controller and has not gotten any replacement relays from us. -With regards to the batteries, the customer was mixing old and new batteries, this is not a recommended practice, as the batteries of different age will present different resistance levels to charging.

It’s unfortunate that this customer has felt their only recourse is to disparage us anonymously on the internet for a situation that would appear they created. If they would have allowed us to work with them, we probably could have gotten this resolved for them in an equitable manner.

I bought a 2 kw system from them and sucks no warranty and poor technical service here they go again they must monitor these sites expecting negative reviews. They always have an excuse

Crystal S

Jason, I understand David is helping you troubleshoot your system and found that the problem is not with the wind turbine but with the overall setup. When you connect the wind turbine directly to a grid tie inverter, it bogs down the wind turbine and squelches the output.

Grid tie has way more resistance on the turbine than the batteries would, causing it to drag the turbine way down in production. This is why we do not recommend or use these grid tie units with our turbines, we always recommend that you go through the battery bank and then to a grid tie inverter. The setup you have is a workaround but the expectations are different when you do not have an ideal setup.

We watched your facebook video and looked over the photos you sent and it looks like the roofline and treeline surrounding the turbine may also be interfering with output. If you add one or more batteries to your system, you should see an increase in output and performance.
